Detection, Evaluation and Characterization of Threats to Road Applications

Roadside

Rugged probes will be deployed at the roadside or on overhead gantries.   The probes will include a bespoke RF Front End and a processor hosting a software receiver.  Digital data is buffered on a continual basis.  If interference is detected then an alert log will be raised and the appropriate digital data will be stored.  If nominal conditions with no interference detected the data buffer is overwritten.
Once interference is detected the sample of digital data can be analysed locally to identify the type on interferer and can also be sent to the back-office facility for further analysis (*).  The inclusion of a software receiver allows the use of detection and characterisation techniques which are not possible using only the outputs of a standard GNSS receiver. These more rigorous techniques greatly increasing the confidence of detection and allow the type of interferer to be identified.

(*) The trade-off between analyses which can be handled on the probe and those which will be run in the back-office is currently ongoing.
