Automotive & Rail Innovation Center (ARIC) of AGIT m.b.H.

AGIT mbH is located in Aachen, Germany. In its role as regional development agency for the Technology Region Aachen, AGIT is strengthening selected innovative technologies. For the navigation sector as well as for transport, its business unit Automotive & Rail Innovation Center (ARIC) is running all activities.
Within the project Galileo above, currently two terrestrial test beds are being installed to allow for testing of Galileo-based systems and applications. One is targeting road applications at the new automotive proving ground ATC (Aldenhoven Testing Center) in Aldenhoven, Germany; the other is targeting railway applications along with the Wegberg-Wildenrath Test and Validation Center for railways.
Galileo satellite signals are emulated and transmitted within the new test beds. Therefore, several transmitters (pseudolites) are positioned on poles in such a way, that reception of three or more Galileo signals is possible at any position inside the test beds. The user segments not only decode Galileo signals, they may also include EGNOS and GPS signals to calculate a highly precise position. The test beds allow for an early development and adaption of systems in real time operation so that they are ready for market with the operational start of the Galileo satellite navigation system. The automotive innovation center currently coordinates the local set-up of these Galileo test beds. Main project coordinator for Galileo above, which also includes initial application of Galileo in automotive and rail systems, is RWTH Aachen University.
