Satellite Applications Catapult Centre (SAC)

The Satellite Applications Catapult (SAC) is an independent innovation and technology company, created to foster growth across the economy through the exploitation of space. We help organisations make use of and benefit from satellite technologies, and bring together multidisciplinary teams to generate ideas and solutions in an open innovation environment. Based in Harwell, near Didcot, the Catapult was established in May 2013 by Innovate UK as one of a network of centres to accelerate the take-up of emerging technologies and drive economic growth. The Catapult a not-for-profit research organisation which is registered as a private company limited by guarantee and controlled by its Board.

SAC has major strategic thrusts in Transport and Maritime Applications, focusing on the benefits that space-based applications can bring to these sectors. This encompasses EGNSS and GNSS applications as well as applications from other domains including satellite and terrestrial communications, and earth observation.

Much of the Catapult‘s work is collaborative with industrial and/or academic partners, based on a growth agenda. EGNSS work includes Robust GNSS, threat and vulnerability assessment and GNSS monitoring, Satellite Applications Catapult has been active in many National, European, and International activities and fora related to GNSS and EGNSS. Our staff chair Special Interest Groups for Research and Development as well as for Satellite Navigation at the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN). Our staff have organised and chaired international conference sessions at major EU and US GNSS-related conferences. We are represented on the EC Mission Evolution Advisory Group (MEAG) and are an active participant in Galileo Services and in the Satellite Navigation Committee of UK Space.
