Detector
DETECTOR has been tested in laboratory conditions using the specialist facilities of the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen (IPSC) at the EC Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra Italy. Laboratory tests covered the following aspects:
- Characterizing the signals emitted by a set of jammers (F1 and F2)
- Profiling the emission pattern from jammers placed in different parts of a vehicle (e.g. plugged into a cigarette lighter vs concealed in glove compartment) (F3 and F4)
- Profiling emission patterns from jammers in different types of vehicle
Results from these tests show that different jammers, which may look identical, can be differentiated based on their signal characteristics. Results also show how the jammer signals are affected by the type of vehicle and the placement of the jammer in the vehicle. This helps identify the best places to install DETECTOR probes and allows an estimate of how accurately the location of a jamming vehicle can be determined from a single probe or an array of probes (F5). This information is all used to ensure an effective deployment of the operational system.
