Detection, Evaluation and Characterization of Threats to Road Applications

Detector

Objectives

A series of seven top level objectives  drive the project and have been used to derive the programme of work, they are:

Threat Identification
To identify threats to GNSS from natural and man-made interferers based on existing literature and experience.

Threat Demonstration
To carry out a test exercise in a controlled environment to demonstrate the types of threats (jammer technologies) that are currently available on the market and to assess the impact which each type of jammer can have on a range of GNSS applications and services.

Prototype
To develop a simple, low-cost GNSS jammer detection capability based on the integration of advanced signal processing algorithms into an existing flexible software GNSS receiver.

Prototype Validation
Validate the prototype through a series of witnessed tests in controlled environments involving consortium partners and invited guests.
Validation under varying conditions will assess its operational effectiveness at correctly identifying and classifying a range of different threats / technologies.

Identification of Operational Concepts
To identify and examine options for how the DETECTOR system could be used by EU transport infrastructure operators, police forces and government agencies in the protection of GNSS based applications and services (within the context of existing EU legal frameworks). This will include the development of a deployment and operations strategy.

Database of Jammer Signatures
To assemble a database of jammer signatures which the project shall make available to the community (through appropriate channels) that will enable receiver manufacturers and system integrators to develop innovative countermeasure technologies.

Commercial Feasibility Analysis
To develop the business case for the DETECTOR system.  The business case will include market analysis, value-chain analysis, competitor analysis, costs, revenue, commercialisation options, market entry strategies plus a legal and regulatory analysis.
